Egyptian food lovers feast to their fill at Cairo Bites festival

Egyptian food lovers feast to their fill at Cairo Bites festival

Egypt

It was a culinary feast for food lovers in Cairo On Saturday at the annual Cairo Bites food festival hosted at the city’s Merryland park.

Food enthusiasts allowed themselves the splurge on a few extra dollars than they would on a normal day to tantalize their taste buds by exploring food from over 100 eateries.

“The idea behind it is that it gathers all the food industry in one place between restaurants and products. Mainly this year the product area is a new concept for Cairo Bites so that we gather the whole food industry. As the event grows it is becoming easier to gather the restaurants and the products and anything related to the food industry,” said Marwa Saleh, member of the Cairo Bites Team.

The two day festival hosted cooking shows by celebrity chefs in front of a live audience, who were able to sample dishes straight out of the pan. Every year, about 10,000 visitors flock to this festival.

One of the revelers, Omar Rashad said the concept is a winner.

“I came to try many things at the same time. Because we do not have a place where we can try everything at the same time. So we came to take some samples with these people. I don’t think they’ve been to Merryland before,” he added.

“We hope that in every now and then they do something like this. It takes us out in the beautiful weather and out of the depression that we are living in. Honestly all we hear everyday is depressing things. We want to have a funny day,” said Samia Riad, also a visitor.

Established in the 1950s, Merryland park was picked due to its cultural significance and popularity with the residents.
