Republic of the Congo
The Congolese Labour Party will designate the party’s candidate for the March presidential election this Monday.
Two months to the election, the members of the investiture commission of the ruling party are expected to propose a candidate for validation by the central committee.
Denis Sassou Nguesso has been tipped favourite by many within the party who will consider failure to choose him as a big surprise.
President Sassou Nguesso who is ending his second seven year mandate has the chance to stand after amending the constitution through a referendum in October 2015.
The October referendum , boycotted by the opposition, was approved by more than 92 % of voters according to official results.
The opposition has openly expressed lack of confidence in the upcoming election.
It is still unclear whether they will present a single opposition candidate or not.
