Burkina Faso

Burkinabes has honoured victims of the recent terrorist attack on the Cappucino restaurant and Splendid hotel during a tribute event on Saturday. The attack claimed the lives of some thirty people.

The flags of the 30 countries affected by the attack were displayed during a walk described as ‘light chain’.

They sang the national anthem and went ahead with the procession thirty metres away from the attack site. This was followed by choreographic display under the watchful eyes of relatives emotionally touched by the tragedy.

“I came to give my sympathy to all those who have lost loved ones and relatives. They merit this,” Simon Kaboré told an Africanews correspondent in Burkina Faso.

An Italian, Stephania Qamani, who joined other Burkinabés in the tribute said, “I came with a message of peace. That is to express my profound condolence to all those who lost loved ones in the attack.”

Participants were served coffee during the tribute as a sign of requesting normal life.

“Cappucino is where we use to drink coffee in peace while laughing with brothers and sisters. We do not want to live in fear. We categorically say no to fear and terrorism,” Sandrine Nama, a Burkinabe musician said.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the reasons behind the attack by the AQIM,linked to Al Qaeda.

Burkina Faso is currently getting help in the investigations by the United States FBI unit and anti-terrorism experts from France.
