Alex Kiarie or "Channy" is a freelance journalist working in Kenya. He is a holder of a Diploma in Video/ TV production from the government-owned Kenya Institute of Mass Communication. Apart from writing for Africa News, he works as a radio and TV producer for different media outlets and other organisations on contractual basis. He also operates his private audio visual studio, from where he produces radio and TV infommercials, documentaries and features for organisations and companies on a commercial basis. He also records music.
Kenya is my main choice. This choice is informed by the challenges faced by the people of Kenya as a result of bad governance, which is as a result of Kenya being one of the cases of failed democracies, mostly occasioned by negative ethnicity and greed for power and wealth by the key political players.
The recent post election violence made me be alive to the fact that our judicial systems need to be overhauled if any justice is to be realized by those who fell victims to the politically instigated violence. It should be noted that it is not the first time that ethnic clashes were being witnessed in Kenya. It happened in 1991 and 1997.Yet no one has aver been brought to book.
My interest,hence, is to raise awareness on the plight of those affected, and how they are coping with the man made calamity that the violence was. I also aspire to influence change in the country, and to the African continent as a whole. However,I can still cover events in other parts of Africa.
