My name is James Karuga a Kenyan Business journalist based in Nairobi. I have nearly 3 years of experience. In that time have written for notable publications like Business Daily Africa, Farm Radio International, Africa Good News, and UK’s New Agriculturalist, and how we made it in Africa. For the, publications I have covered issues on health, real estate, green energy and predominantly agri-business. For the efforts, I’ve won best agricultural reporter from East Africa awarded by the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) from Netherlands in 2011. I like to describe myself as an accidental journalist who never regrets the accident, as the injuries have been worth it. I studied Computing in college but bumped into journalism by a twist of creative fate. When I am not busy chasing News leads I write movie scripts and listen to soccer on BBC. I am also an internet News junkie with a hearty appetite for avocados and fried maize and beans in Kenya called ‘Githeri.’ Life is good when people benefit from reading my copy.
My connection to Africa
I have written agribusiness stories for Ghana and Kenya. However most of those I write are based here in Kenya. The stories end up being published in a couple of online magazines I write for from South Africa, UK and Canada.
