Media expert against AIDS
From March 25th to 30th 2008, African journalists from 24 countries attended the first conference on AIDS in western and central Africa. The network of professionals of Media and Arts Committed in the struggle against AIDS (REPMASCI) invited African journalists to think about media contribution against this disease. - African media want to take part in the struggle against AIDS. - As elections approach in Côte d’Ivoire, the President Laurent Gbagbo visited to his South African counterpart in Cape Town.
This visit took place as all the Ivorian are waiting for the peace back by free and fair elections. We remember that the agreements signed in Pretoria in 2003 and the strong implication of the South African President Mr. Thabo Mbeki.
Two main points where on the agenda: the assessment of agreement of Ouagadougou signed on March 4, 2007 and additional agreement and the general elections of 2008. - The International Women's Day where dedicaced to the peace in Côte d'Ivoire. The theme of the 2008 edition where : peace building by women. The official ceremony took place in Gagnoa (where the President originated from). Lost of political personalities showed their support to women : Soro Kigbafori Guillaume (the Prime Minister), the President Koudou Gbagbo Laurent and his wife, Simone Ehivet Gbagbo and the representants of women organizations. - On ONUCI-FM, the President Laurent Gbagbo gave his point of view on the disarmament issue. For him, Côte d’Ivoire is getting out of the crisis. The disarmament is a very important step in this process. “We must pick up the arms before elections’’ said him. Elections will be organise after the disarmament. The date of elections can be revise if public hearing and census are not finished. We can expect June will be post pone. One year after the signing of Ouagadougou agreement we can note the optimist of the President in spite of the difficulties they meet with.
During the interview the President said we have money to finance the disarmament but we need the help…Elections in Côte d'Ivoire coming soon.
