DR Congo: Gorilla killer arrested
- According to environment protection NGO WildlifeDirect and the Congolese Nature Conservation Institute (ICCN), Honore Mashagiro organised the killings for some lucrative business.The gorillas were killed in 2007 in Virunga National Park where more than three hundred of them live. The park is home to the world's last mountain gorillas. Unfortunately the animals are being threatened because of the political situation in the country. The park is located in a region of the country where rebels have set up their base. Reports say that at least six other wildlife employees could be questioned over the killings of the gorillas and their role in the crime ordered by senior director Mashagiro. - Cape Verdian airline TACV is about to lose at least 50.000 passengers wich is 10% of all traffic to the Portuguese airline TAP according to Lusa news agency in Lisbon. TACV general director Gilles Filletreault affirmed in an interview with Lusa that TACV will lose passengers because of the soon to be introduced daily flights between Portugal and Cape Verde that TAP will offer. De director also claims that Tap is entering into TACV's terrain in an aggressive way. Currently TAP and TACV have an code-share partnership, wich perhaps will be reviewed sooner or later acording to Gilles Filletreault. - Professional windsurfers from all over the world have flown in to compete in this race. During the trails the surfers could test the waves and practise their skills in the legendary breaks of Sal. Monday on day 3 of the tournament the contest was on hold because of the weather condition. Today on day 6 of the competition the windsurfers are back on the waves where they belong. - TRAFFIC, the wildlife trade monitoring network, and WWF indicate that the increasing trade in wild meat is threatening wildlife populations and creating a food security issue for rural communities.Dubbed "'Night Time Spinach”, the report reads : “Conservation and livelihood implications of wild meat use in refugee situations in north western Tanzania".
