More on Jammeh's controversial HIV/AIDS cure claim

8 february 2007 - PANA. Results of lab tests on the first batch of HIV/AIDS patients who recently received President Yahya Jammeh's controversial traditional treatment have been released indicating "the absence of HIV viral plasma and or (the plasma existing) in very weak quantities," health officials in Gambia disclosed here Tuesday.
Going by results of the test which was conducted and signed by Prof. Soulaymane Mboup of Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, Jammeh's traditional cure seems to be effective.
Gambia's Health Secretary (Minister) Tamsir Mbowe, received the results and had a cause to jump for joy before commending President Jammeh "for his unflinching support and commitment to the well-being of all Gambians, as demonstrated by his personal intervention in the treatment of patients."

Mbowe assured the president of "professional and moral support in this potentially epoch-making endeavour, to once again reaffirm the scientific linkage between Islamic faith, and traditional/modern medicine".
"Success in President Jammeh's efforts augurs well for scientific research and development in medicine and should be positively taken in this spirit," Mbowe stated.
Last week, Jammeh visited the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital (the main hospital in Banjul) in Banjul where he announced that he has discovered cure for HIV/AIDS and asthma.
Thereafter, he started receiving patients in batches for treatment, which appears to be a combination of traditional herbal medicine and a spiritual healing process.
