Nigerian sisters are celebrating Africa

  1. Ameyaw Debrah, AfricaNews reporter in Accra, Ghana
Two Nigerian sisters, Chioma and Oluchi Ogwuegbu have decided to explore and celebrate the uniqueness of Africa by embarking on an adventure that has already taking them to 10 out of the 30 African countries they plan to visit.

The adventure, dubbed ‘Celebrate Africa’ started with Chioma’s dream to travel across the globe, and later became a dream to travel across Africa to show Africans and the world the positive things in Africa. She believed that this would be more purposeful and her drive and determination rubbed off on her younger sister, Oluchi to join the once in a lifetime adventure.

They have been travelling by road since July 2008 throughout West Africa, and documenting their experiences with photos and articles on their website, www.celebrateafrica.net

The pair has been to Ghana, Burkina Faso, Gambia, Mali, Senegal, Guinea Bissau, Cameroun, Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea, and Sierra Leone.

According to the sisters, issues of immigration and crossing borders have been the biggest challenge since the embarked on the journey. However they have not been deterred by the challenges, they plan to move from West Africa into the other regions next year after visiting Togo and Benin. They would then move to Central, Eastern and Southern Africa.

Chioma and Oluchi believe that there are many misconceptions about Africa; and that the best way to clear those doubts would be to travel across the continent to see all the beauty that the continent has to offer. They believe that Africans are one people and should be united in resolve to change the misconception about the continent in the Western media.
