US mayors to lobby for investment in Uganda

    A delegation of mayors of several American cities, medical doctors and business people is in Uganda to explore opportunities of collaborating with Uganda in development.
    Kampala
    The delegation led by the Executive Director of the National Conference of Black Mayors, Ms Vanessa Williams has President Yoweri Museveni has received and held a meeting with an American delegation at his country home in Rwakitura, Kiruhura district.

    Speaking during the meeting Ms Vanessa Williams, promised to lobby for investment in Uganda, especially in education, health, housing and manufacturing as well as offering technical support to the country. She said that her organization also has keen interest in environmental protection and supports faith based organizations.

    Speaking during the same occasion, President Museveni told the delegation that the main challenge facing Uganda is export of raw materials.

    He informed them that Uganda is a good destination for business especially investments in agro-processing and manufacturing. He said that entrepreneurs in Uganda can take advantage of the quota and tax free markets in US, the European Union, China, India and the whole of Africa.

    The President also stressed that the country commands a big agricultural and mining potential which calls for value addition. He appealed to African-Americans to link Uganda with large investors in the two potential sectors and help contribute to Uganda’s growth and progress.

    President Museveni said that attracting investment in these sectors will not only bring about growth of the national economy but also generate employment for young skilled Ugandans and help the country take off.
