Nigeria-Lesotho: CAN qualifier venue changes
- Posted on Monday 20 August 2007 - 09:29The 2008 African Nations Cup qualifying match between Nigeria and Lesotho 8 September will be played in Warri in Nigeria's oil-producing Niger Delta, after Nigerian soccer authorities approved the use of the stadium in the town.
Spokesman of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA), Ademola Olajire, said the approval followed the inspection of the facilities at the Warri Township Stadium by German coach Berti Vogts.
"Berti Vogts was impressed with facilities that he saw in the oil city. He could not believe that after the facilities at the Abuja National Stadium, there could be another one like what he saw in Warri," Olajire told journalists here.
The coach has called up his top players for the match, even though the Super Eagles have already qualified for the 2008 finals in Ghana.
When the two teams met in the qualifiers in October 2006, Nigeria beat host Lesotho 1-0.
With four points from five matches, the Crocodiles of Lesotho are stuck at the bottom of group 3 of the qualifiers, which end next month.
