My friends and me in torn Nairobi

  1. Lameck Nyagudi
This are some personal photos I made in Nairobi. I am very worried about this horrible situation. It affects my live, as it does thousands and thousands of others. The eruption of the violence after the announcement of the election makes me regret why I did voted in the fist place. I never voted to see people killing each other nor families being chased away from there home. It's very unfortunate what is happening in Kenya right now am not really sure if it would ever be the same again.

It is so much more real to read an individual person's account of what is happening. May reason prevail over violence, and I hope you and your family are safe. We are with you in our thoughts.

Thanks Lameck, You are doing a great job. Here in Canada, I see the news everyday but your pictures report the news more clearly than the media. You are already making a difference!
I lived in Nairobi back in 1987. A wonderful place! Hope it's going to stay the same.
Don't lose hope, Lameck. That is very important.

    Lameck,
thank you for your work--keep it up! It's important for those in the international community to be able to put a face to the situation in Kenya right now. Is there anything we can do other than pray?

Respect man. I wish there were more people like you. People who know that peace is the way, not war.

May you and other Kenyans not forget that every small act of nonviolence and forgiveness instead of revenge is a step towards the ultimate healing of the nation.

    Be strong.

Things are slowly calming down it was unfortunate that our country witnessed episodes that we have never witnessed before .We are trying to come to terms to the kind of violence ,brutality and human murders that occurred .
What we don’t understand is how people who have lived with each other can just wake up and start attacking their neighbors whom they have depended on or assisted in times of need .We pray that it doesn’t occur again .Many people have lost their lives and others maimed Property of great value have been destroyed .The vulnerable members of the society women and children are the most hit .Many people have been displaced and have nowhere to go as the only place they called home have been burnt together with all they owned .Children are sleeping outside depending on well wishers for their survival .
The bread winners of the families mostly those who reside in slums and the poor flock from the villages can no longer provide for their dependants this is due to loss of jobs and destruction of the only means of earning that they knew
The tension is still high in the places that were hardly hit. Most people are still treating people of different communities with suspicion since they don’t know who to trust or what the future holds for them .We are praying that solution will come up so that we can return to peace and calm that that we are used to. Please remember us in your prayers since we are living in critical times where one cannot even be sure of his security or what the next minute will bring.I am glade for the responce the international communities are putting in our country.God bless all of you for your responce.

    Lameck hi,

I am a Nairobi born Mzungu who was in my beloved country Kenya at election time. Just know how broken-hearted our community is to see even a single drop of blood shed of our wonderful African brothers and sisters, daughters and sons.

There remains a lot of love for Kenya and its people. It is clear that the rest of the world cares deeply for the country. So don't lose hope, that this dark period in our country may herald a newer, better start. Having stared at the abyss for nearly two months now, Kenyans surely will see how bloodshed and destruction solves nothing. And with a new sense of responsibility from our so-called 'leaders', who preached the politics of violence and unrest whilst others lost their lives in their name, there is a big chance we can rebuild our country into a stronger nation these next few years.

Stay strong and hopeful, and know that millions are praying for you.

    Best wishes

    Adrian

Lameck, your work is very important to those of us outside Kenya. Keep taking those pictures, we depend on you. Your work shows us what can't be put across in words and statistics. It puts faces on what's happening for us who cannot see it ourselves. Thank you for doing this. Never give up hope Lameck!

Cordially accept my sympathy dear brother Lameck. " disappoinment and frustrations are functions of expectation." Thanks God that the Leaders thought positively this afternoon and things will go to normal again. Your issue has been in our prayers here in Southern Sudan as people who have experience in suffering.

I appeal to all Kenyans that it has been put into your hands and it is upto you to handle it with care, have sense of brotherhood this time and you will reap what the world has been praying for.

I thank you all you who have been praying for our country and giving as words of hope. It's really been pain and destruction of property and lives for the past few weeks in our great Nation Kenya.I believe that after the signing of the power sharing deal,Kenyans would start to celebrate and love each other. We appreciate the efforts of Mr.Kofi Annan for this well done job.I feel very privileged to be a Kenyan and to hope that Kenya would emerge more stronger that it was before.I really appricated the efforts made by the international community in putting pressure to the leaders to come to this agreement. I really comment you for a well done job.I will keep on praying for our country and sharing views with all you out there as we look forward for a progress in our Nation Kenya.Thank you and my God bless you.

    Dear Lameck,

I visited Kenya with my family in December 2005 for the first time and was most taken by the kindness of it's people and its beautiful colours. I have also made a very close and good friend in Kenya and we remain in contact until today. I was so sad and sorry that troubles erupted in Kenya and as always and as you know it's the people that get hurt most. I come originally from the Lebanon where we had many years of civil war and can share some understanding to the loss of many innocent lives and people losing their family or friends, homes and what little possessions we all have. The purpose of my message to you is to make contact and hopefully one day become a friend. I say this with sincerity as I have already started a work support scheme in Kenya but sadly it is on hold due to the troubles. I sincerely hope the political situation gets fully resolved and that Kenya can go back to normality sooner than later. I believe your work is very important for world awareness. If you are interested to be in touch, my scheme could hopefully and eventually help you in taking your photography skills from strength to strength. If this is of no interest to you then I fully understand but I hope that you can keep going on with your good work from strength to strengh especially in times of peace.

    Lameck,

I am a young Canadian, who spent some time in Mathere (about 2 years ago now) and have seen some of the hardships and heard some of the stories first hand from other residents in Mathere.
I love the pictures you have taken as they speak volumes not only about the conditionsand the tension, but they show the faces of the beautiful people who reside there! In my short time there, I met young people who are very eager and intelligent individuals who are trying to help their fellow Kenyans.
You represent the new generation of Kenyans and I know that despite the violence and misdirection there is Hope, I have seen it, and you represent it. Thank you, and I look forward to seeing more of your pictures!
