The Kenyan General Elections are still underway as I write this update a few minutes after casting my vote at the Kenya Medical Training College in Karen,Nairobi.Long queues and the heat are the hallmarks of this election.
The Hiccups
While at the que, there were cases of the Biometric Voter Kits(BVK) failing to work which meant that the Polling officials had to resort to manual ways of finding the voter details. At Polling Station L in Karen, the failure of one of the BVK has led to lots of delays since it is taking much longer -approximately 10-15 minutes for one voter to be processed. This is against the initial approximates of 5-7 minutes that had been given by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC).
There were other cases where the BVK machine did not detect the voter fingerprint thereby causing the voter to go and have his/her details verified manually in the Voter Register before being given the ballot papers. After six hours of waiting,I was able to cast my vote.
