Hargeisa—Mar 03, 2013. Private utility suppliers increase the price of electric by 20% across Somaliland after the price of diesel has increased in the past week. These companies declared that they will be charging $1.20 per Watt effective as of this month from $1 per Watt a month earlier.
Public transportation and water truck coalitions also announced rate increment as the result of this sky rocketed fuel price.
Somaliland has one of the most expensive electricity in eastern African countries following Djibouti.
This utility and public service cost elevation hit hard middle and low income households.
So far, the government is avoiding those responsible—fuel importing companies. The ministry of commerce—in a press conference—called for the utility companies to consider those in needs, a statement which is considered by many not pressing enough.
Somaliland is the solo state across the globe experiencing this diesel price increment.
