OPINION: Sometimes Africa is its own worst enemy

  1. Bhekuzulu Khumalo, AfricaNews contributor
Though in many regards Africa's problems are a direct result of colonialism, a direct result of Western white interference, but many times, Africa behaves as its own worst enemy. It is the holiday season, yet millions of Africans will not enjoy because of wars, famines, and disordered countries.
    africa map
Yet Africa’s problem is so easy to solve, it is a matter of changing the mindset, a culture of freedom. Cultures are meant to be dynamic to deal with the realities of the moment, what worked 200 years ago will not necessary work, if it is not adapted to the situation of the moment.

The days of strong man have gone; the days of colonial institutions should have passed with colonialism. Colonial institutions and infrastructure and mind set were created to serve the few, the colonisers, Westerners to be more precise, the truth is an offense to many, but not a sin.

Africa is left with the colonial mentality that blacks cannot do without the westerner and therefore blacks, Africans in particular should not trust their own work. This of course is a benefit to western societies not Africans, and western societies will be the benefiters of Africa’s wealth because of that mentality.

But to believe in oneself, to believe in ones society is up to the individuals and societies, no matter the propaganda spouting from the west, one does not have to believe it, people choose to believe it.

Freedom is exactly that, believing that one can do, believing that one’s society can do, once a society believes that they will demand equality before the law. A free human is one who is allowed to do what other human beings in that society are allowed to do. This is a new thing, one must understand that equality before the law does not and has never existed in the West, they were the only industrial societies so they could get away with it.

Come to Canada and try opening a bank, when all you need back then was a safe, today an internet connection, you will end up incarcerated, simple as that, you are not equal to those running the banks, they have protection from the arms of the state.

Go now to the America land of free and start your own casino, you will spend many years in jail, because the law does not recognize your equality with those given permission by the state to have casino’s, in animal farm speak, they are more equal than others.

A free society recognises that none must have special privileges from the state as all are equal, give that freedom to Africans and Africans will boom, it is simple yet Africa continues to fall further behind because nobody wants to rake any action. Why?

One can complain about conspiracies in the West, that some sort of illuminati, elders of Zion, Bilderbergers are running the show could be true, might not be true, that is not for this article, but why go that far? Where ever there is inequality before the law conspiracies will spring up, not just in the west but everywhere.

In Angola is Dos Santos and the click around him not running the show by legal means. In Zimbabwe is ZANU not running the show it keeping others from doing. Does one not have to be a member of ANC in South Africa to get ahead.

In Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, Botswana, there are all these clicks protected by law, it is exactly the same thing in the West. Africans before blaming Bilderbergers must first look at the same thing happening within Africa and leave these phantom illuminati’s alone, if they exist they are a problem for later.

Where there is equality before the law there can be no conspiracy, simple as that, because nobody will have the power to block other clicks so to speak. Therefore a Westerner cannot help you have equality before the law, because that concept does not exist in the West, it is sheer nonsense then to pay Western consultants to improve African economies, when in reality it is just a legal requirement to remove legal barriers of entry into industries.

This will share out profits and revenue brining about more equality in incomes, more equality in incomes means higher economic growth.

Africa needs nothing more than that; it would be the greatest gift. Africa does not need such programmes like the UN Millennium goals, it needs legal barriers of entry into industries to be removed, simple as that and the people will find their own way.

Remember, what is good for existing business is not necessary good for individual freedoms, but what is good for individual freedoms is always good for the economy in the long run, existing business might lose out because they rely on models that depend on protection from the state.

Viva Africa, Viva the African, obviously writing as I do, I believe the black man can do anything, a white unfortunately will always fear that, fear any black achievement, they just want to be masters.

Viva Africa and may what is holy protect us and give us courage to do the right thing.

Well i do believe what you say but in real sense, the question to African problem is it; Africans as whole, African leadership, or the ideology?

I think what you said is kind of true, but I also think that the people come before economic success and that the African people including the leaders need to learn their God given rights as the sons of Adam. They need to know how the world views them as all Africans no one cares if your from Zimbabwe, Zambia, Nigeria, South Africa, etc... If they cannot see themselves as one country on one continent as the world views them instead of many countries then they will always be a divided and weak nation for conquering. No one cares what tribe you are from that is a perception of the mind we are all from the tribe of Adam. Go back to Genesis and find your true roots we are all sons of GOD.
