Cement is getting harder to find in most Cameroonian cities as prices skyrocket and people hoard supplies waiting for the best selling price.

Shopkeeper Lyonga John Motanga who struggles to feed his family with high food prices owns a small cement shop in Limbe.
He sells cement to people who want to build. But with the prices of cement nearly tripling, his business is declining. He says he cannot afford to stock cement anymore.
"I have no cement, because it is expensive," he said. "I cannot get that money to go and buy cement and I cannot even see where they are selling cement because it is like traffic now." When people come to buy cement, he says he must send them elsewhere. "I am losing customers, but it is hard," added Lyonga.
Last year, cement was easily available. Now, Lyonga struggles to stock his shop. He says one of his friends tried to buy cement recently, but he was refused. "He went to town and he [saw] a shop that is selling cement, but there was a long line where they are standing. And he waited all day, but after these people [sold to] 15 people, they said okay we are going to stop, because there is no more cement," said Lyonga.
But Lyonga’s friend told him there was still cement in the shop. He said the shop-owner simply decided not to sell any more.
Six months ago cement sold for FCFA 4500; today the price has leaped to FCFA 6500 that is when you can find it.
Cameroon has only one cement factory, CEMENCAM which cannot satisfy local consumption. Cement is also imported. Another cement factory which is to be opened in Limbe by a Korean company is expected to kick off soon. This, many hope, will come to salvage the cement problem in Cameroon.
