Ghana Elections: Security personnel deployed to regions

    Personnel from the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Customs, Excise and Preventive Service, Ghana Prisons Service and Ghana Immigration Service gathered at the Independence Square on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 for deployment to the ten regions of the country to oversee Friday's general elections.

    Leaders of the various services took delivery of final logistics and first aid drugs.

    The Director General of Police Operations and Head of National Elections' Security Task Force, DCOP John Kudalor, charged personnel to see themselves as equal in Friday’s operation after having gone through the same training for the elections.

    “You must exercise the same authority, the same confidence, the same posture and all that is expected of you as professional security officers,” he addressed the thousands of officers, who were inexplicably in high spirits.

    “The world will be looking at Ghana again. You and me cannot afford to let our motherland down.”

    DCOP Kudalor regretted the inability of hundreds of personnel to make it to the regions but insisted there are contingency plans to deal with the shortfall.

    Senior officers from all the services took turns to remind personnel about their responsibilities in ensuring peaceful polls.

    We have taken delivery of drugs and water for personnel while an ambulance will also accompany them, disclosed one senior officer.

    The teams are expected to be back in five days.
