The pontifical council for the laity is organizing a Pan-African Congress of Catholic Laity in Yaoundé (Cameroon). The meeting will be hels from 4 to 9 september 2012 on the thème : "Be witnesses of Jesus Christ in AFrica today : 'Salt of the Earth...Light of the world" (Mt 5: 13-14).
The Continental congress was held in the premises of the catholic University of Central Africa in Yaoundé (UCAC) Campus Nkolbisson. This initiative is part of the tradition of the Pontifical Council for the laity which periodically organizes conferences continental or regional Catholic laity in different parts of the world.
The congres takes place when the Church prepares to celebrate the year of faith proclaimed by pope Benedict XVI in his Apostolic Letter of 11 Octobrer 2011, Porta fidie. The celebration will begin October 11, 2012 and ending November 24, 2013
