Sall a Geological engineer was born in December 11, 1961 in Fatick to a civil servant father and a mother who sells groundnuts. He served several positions under Wade’s administration including Advisor of Energy and Mines to President Wade, Director- General of the Petroleum Company of Senegal, Minister of Mines, Energy and Hydraulics and Prime minister.
He became mayor of Fatick, his hometown under the Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS) in June 1st, 2001.
The former mayor of Fatick was a long time member of the Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS) before he fell apart with Wade, his mentor, and formed his own party. Report says he was removed as President of Senegal’s National Assembly in November 2008 after he queried his former Boss about his son involvement with Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) construction sites for the OIC summit in 2008. It was widely believed that Abdoulaye Wade was grooming his son Karim Wade to be his successor.
Sall won a landslide victory against Wade on March 25th 2012 after the opposition ‘gang up’ against the ageing leader.
Analyst say Sall immediate task will be to unite the country, reduce the high cost of living and provide basic services for his people.
