Kenyan Environment Minister and a close ally of President Mwai Kibaki, John Michuki died on Tuesday in a Nairobi Hospital from heart attack at the age of 80. Michuki whose death brings closure to a life of one of Kenya's politicians belonging to the old order was known for his ruthlessness while dealing with matters in the various ministries where he served.
    John Michuki
He is credited with bringing sanity to the transport sector in Kenya by enforcing traffic rules which were christened, "the Michuki rules" and whose effect is still felt today in Kenya.

The fallen minister was as controversial as he was a stickler for protocol. One time when he ordered police invasion on a media house in Kenya, Mr. Michuki famously quipped, “If you rattle a snake you should expect to be bitten.”
When he served in the Internal Security Ministry, Michuki's shoot to kill order to the police against an outlawed murderous and extornist gang was widely condemned by human rights organisations in the East African country.

Announcing the death, Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki said, “He was a true family friend and dependable ally. In this time of mourning we pray to God to give his family and constituents the strength and fortitude to bear the great loss”
