Has the social media brought more harm than good?

  1. The current wave of social media has brought a level of freedom in the way we express our feelings. Today, thanks to social media networks, anyone can post anything, say on twitter, facebook, my space among others, in a bid to communicate. Some of the content posted by some individuals via the social media networks is quite mis-leading. I agree that we all have the right to express what we feel but we should also be mindful of the content. In Kenya today, Hate Speech has hit rock bottom. Politicians and like-minded people are using the social media to mud-sling one another. The media too, has been a victim of negative publicity via social media. Some people with ill-intentions will post negative comments on a journalist's blog, just to tarnish their image. My question is, who should gauge the content in these social media networks? Who should edit what is unnecessary??Who should be held responsible for mis-interpreted messages? I welcome your suggestions.
