Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Energy Hassan Younis said that projects to generate 2,690 new megawatts from wind power are set for implementation this year, according Global Arab Network.
The projects include wind farms that will generate 1,120 megawatts funded under governmental cooperation agreements, the minister said in a statement.
The minister also revealed that the government had signed agreements with Deutsche Bank, the European Investment Bank, the European Union, Japan and Spain to fund a 540-megawat wind power project in the Gulf of Suez.
The government is now in talks with the Japanese government to finance a 200-megawat wind power project in the Western Nile region, he added.
