Ghana: President returns from Asia trip

    President John Evans Atta Mills is now home in Ghana after he returned from a trip to Asia where he visited China and Japan.

    The Ghanaian president had is first stop at China where he addressed the Ghanaian community in Beijing, urging them to embrace hard work, integrity and discipline in their various projects in China.

    Around $30 billion dollars in development package is to be provided by the Chinese Government to Ghana, following President Mills' visit. The package would cover investments in the energy and allied sectors; road and rail transportation; the bauxite and aluminium industry; Information Communication Technology, as well as the construction of two regional hospitals in Kumasi and Wa.

    Ghana News Agency had reported that the deal was reached after a Memoranda of Understanding were signed between both countries and added President Mills also visited the New Poly Plaza, offices of the Poly Plaza Group, which is constructing four submarines for the Ghana Navy.

    On his trip to Japan, President Mill expressed his pleasure at the restoration the Japanese Yen loan to Ghana. He said the Yen loan to Ghana was initially cancelled after Ghana decided to go HIPC, a group of highly indebted countries.

    President Mills said a number of loans and grants were agreed upon with details of those agreements explained to the nation at the appropriate time. He added that a number of businessmen from both China and Japan had expressed keen interest to invest in Ghana.
