India, Mauritius seek worldwide honours for Mahatma Gandhi


  1. Mauritius and India said they would submit a joint resolution to the United Nations seeking for 2 October, Mahatma Gandhi's birth date to be decreed International Non- violence Day worldwide.

     
    A Mauritian government source said this decision was taken during the weekly meeting of the council of ministers here late Friday.
     
    "This decision was in conformity with the one taken during the international conference: "Peace, Non-Violence and empowerment–Gandhian Philosophy in the 21st Century", attended by Mauritius Prime minister, Navin Ramgoolam, in Delhi last January, he said. 19 May 2007 - PANA
