Sudanese President Not Invited for African Union Summit

  1. Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir, who is wanted for war crimes by the International Criminal Court, has not been invited to attend the African Union (AU) Conference to be held in Uganda next month.

Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni notes that Sudan will only be represented by other government officials but not President el Bashir.

President Museveni was over the weekend speaking during a meeting with the President of the International Criminal Court Sang Hyun Song at State House Entebbe.

He hailed the court's decision to open an office at the African Union headquarters in Addis Ababa Ethiopia.

President Museveni also defended the court but clarified that not all wars lead to war crimes stressing that a justified war can be fought without killing people.

In a related development, the International Criminal Court is once again calling for
co-operation between Sudan, Uganda, DR- and the Central African Republic in order to arrest Joseph Kony the leader of LRA rebels to put him to justice.

The court’s President Sang Hyun Song notes that the international arrest warrants against Joseph Kony and other Lord's Resistance Army leaders still stand.

Sang Hyun Song was speaking during a meeting with President Yoweri Museveni at State House Entebbe.

He noted that the people of Northern Uganda still fear that LRA rebels will terrorize them again.

However, in his remarks, President Museveni noted that LRA rebels would never cross to Uganda to kill Ugandans. He noted that although Lord’s Resistance Army leader, Joseph Kony, is still on the run, there are chances of arresting him.
