Several top notched football coaches around the world have applied to lead the various national football teams of Liberia.

The list of applicants includes names from Nigeria, Britain, Malta, Portugal, Brazil, Serbia and the USA.

The Liberia Football Association has already closed the application process for vacancies in the various National teams. April 17, 2010 marked the closing date of the process, aimed at recruiting coaches for the Country’s Senior, U-20 and U-17 national football teams. For months, categories of the national levels have been without managers and programs.
According to the spokesperson of the LFA, Henry Flomo, the technical arm of the LFA will soon begin the vetting process leading to the selection of astute and upright coaches. Among the top notched coaches vying the vacant posts are Samson Siasia of Nigeria, Jose Luciano Reis of Brazil, Yron Hochenbom of Serbia, Colwyn Rowe of Britain and Nikola Popovich of Portugal.

Other leading local coaches vying include Frank Jericho Nagba, Darlington Boye, Clarence Lee Chea and Doe Boniface. Former Arsenal and Liberia international Christopher Wreh is also vying for the senior post. The vetting process, according to the LFA Press Officer Henry Flomo, will be transparent with the total number and names of applicants all soon to be disclosed to the public through the media.

Relating the national leagues, which kickoff October 1, 2010, the Competitions Committee has set up sub committees to speed its activities ahead of October. Veteran football statistician Theophilus Weeks heads the sub committee on fixture, while another veteran football administrator and former LFA vice president, Samuel Jlarkrong, heads the rules committee.
The Samuel Karn led Competitions Committee also entrusted Weeks to head the committee to inspect all venues for the October bound competitions. The competitions committee is contemplating adding the Bomi County playing ground as one of the venues, thus Weeks and his committee members’ visit will extend to Bomi County.
In other developments, the Liberia U-17 national side leave the country for Senegal early this week to honor their corresponding fixture in the preliminary rounds of the CAF junior Nations Cup. The return match is slated for this weekend in Dakar, Senegal. The Liberian lads were held 1-1 in the first leg in Monrovia.
At the same time, the remaining members of the national team delegation to the WAFU tournament in Nigeria arrive this Tuesday. The first badge (10) of the 25-man delegation arrived home Saturday April 17, 2010 leaving behind the technical staff, nine players and the accompanying sport journalist. They were excluded due to limited seats on the Virgin Nigeria aircraft, according to the airline officials. The Lone Star played three matches, lost two and won one, before crashing out of the competition.
Meanwhile, the LFA Secretary General Idrissa Kaba has attended the WAFU Congress in Nigeria. The West African Football Union or WAFU Congress, which is an annual event, took place in Abeokuta, Nigeria with member states of the sub region in attendance. The LFA chief of Security, Isaac Gorwah, is also in Nigeria attending the WAFU organized Stadium Security workshop.
The president of the LFA Musa Bility insisted the chief security attends the worthwhile venture to prepare him for future problems relating crowd violence during major games in Liberia. Two Liberian sport journalists complete the list of Liberians stay participating in the WAFU activities in spite the country’s national team is out of the competition.
