The Ghana High Commissioner to Malaysia, Daniel Abodakpi has extended a warm hand of friendship for Malaysian experts to partner Ghana in its oil and gas industry.
The High Commissioner expressed this sentiment at a reception organised to mark the 53rd Independence Anniversary of Ghana which fell on Saturday 6th March 2010. The reception was attended by Honourable Senator Kohillan Pillay, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia, the Guest of Honour, supported by Malaysian government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, captains of commerce and industry, civil society groups as well as Ghanaians and other African nationals resident in Malaysia.
The High Commissioner made reference to the significant discovery of oil and gas in commercial quantities in Ghana and said Malaysia must partner Ghana with her rich experience in this new frontier of economic activity in a manner that will be of mutual benefit to the peoples of the two countries.
Abodakpi made reference to the long standing bond of friendship and co-operation that had characterised relations between Ghana and Malaysia since both countries attained independence in 1957 and underscored his commitment to work towards enhancing these relations.
He stated that Ghana’s quest for economic freedom in furtherance of the expectations and aspirations of her people underpinned the country’s determination to nurture and consolidate a democratic culture grounded in good governance, rule of law, respect for civil liberties and a viable media.
According to him, Ghana appreciated the modest contribution of Malaysia in this direction through the establishment of TV3 Ghana which had played and continued to play a very significant role in the media landscape in Ghana.
He added that the operation of TV3 Ghana coupled with other successful Malaysian Business ventures in Ghana underscored the genuine need for the two countries to intensify commercial and investment co-operation in areas such as agricultural plantations, agro-processing, ICT, infrastructural development as well as the petro-chemical industry.
Guests at the well attended reception were treated to some traditional Ghanaian music as well as Ghanaian dishes.
