General Gowon On Religious Mission To Cameroon

    Former Nigerian leader, General Yakubu Gowon is in Cameroon to launch an annual international Bible conference known as Impact Cameroon.

    Talking to the press at the Yaounde Hilton hotel ahead of the religious event, General Gowon reiterated the need for Christians to cooperate with the authorities in order to build a strong nation, with Jesus Christ as the foundation.

    General Gowon, the founder of a non denominational religious group “Nigeria Prays” said he is supporting Impact Cameroon to help Cameroonians recognise the need to pray for their nation.

    The annual international Bible conference is in its third edition.

    The prayer movement initiated by Rev. David Njayo Njemo of the full Gospel Mission featured church ministers from the United Kingdom, Germany, Nigeria and Cameroon.

    The General who was accompanied by the Nigerian High Commission to Cameroon was received in audience by Cameroon’s Prime Minister and head of government, Philemon yang.

    It is worthy to recall that the former Nigerian leader, General Yakubu Gowon ruled the Federal Military Government of Nigeria from 1966 to 1975. He came to power in a military overthrow and he was equally overthrown in a counter coup.
    General Yakubu Gowon, however, went down in history as the ruler who avoided the separation of Nigeria during the Biafran civil war.

    General Yakubu Gowon, a soldier turned preacher is a man-of God, founder of the non denominational religious group “Nigeria prays”.
