The bad weather in Britain has postponed Michael Essien's trip to Angola to join his Ghana national team for the ongoing African Nations Cup.

A Ghana team spokesman said on Tuesday that Essien will join the squad on Wednesday. The stand-in captain was scheduled to fly from London on Sunday but the spokesman said he was not able to make it out of London because of the heavy snow.

"The bad weather prevented him from doing so as some flights were cancelled. We are still in touch and he is now booked to arrive on Wednesday".

The Chelsea midfielder is hopeful to play for his national team against Ivory Coast on Friday.

Ghana was expected to play with Togo team on Monday as the opening of Group B but was called off after an attack on the Togolese team bus in the Cabinda enclave on Friday.

Essien has returned to fitness after suffering a hamstring injury that would have kept him out of that game.
