The government owned Le Solei Newspaper, quoted a statement from the country’s Department of International Cooperation, Spatial Planning, Air Transport and Infrastructure that the owner of the labels ‘‘Konvict Music’’ and ‘‘Kon Live Distribution’’, based in the US has acquired shares in the newly established Senegal Airlines.

The four time Grammy Award nominee committed himself to serve as ambassador for Senegal Airlines and to work towards extending the country’s influence in the rest of the World.

The State Minister under whose responsibility air transportation falls, Karim Wade, son of the Senegalese president, welcomed Akon’s involvement in the country’s private sector. He described it as a "beautiful example of success of the Senegalese Diaspora and the youth in particular.’’

This, Wade said, accounts for a lot as part of the overwhelmingly response so far to the government's call for the establishment of a strong national flag. He called on other Senegalese both in the country and abroad to emulate Akon’s move in an effort to meeting the challenges to take Senegal to its rightful place.
