Oyedokun stated the introduction of executive cabs into the state transportation system has not only increased the revenue base of the government but has brought relief to the population of commuters in the metropolis.

He said his institute is working to educate road users especially drivers on how to maintain order on roads. “Even with stiff regulations, the transport sector is still faced with so many challenges, principally in the area of human development, which encompasses the drivers and car owners; most drivers and car owners lack the necessary skills and education to ply Lagos roads,” he told Tribune newspaper.

“Many of them cannot understand the road signs and codes. They drink while driving. As a matter of fact, most commercial drivers smoke marijuana and drink alcohol. This anomaly perhaps has led to the death of many innocent souls. It is a major source of worry for the government.”

Oyedokun believes that his institute will help to instill good road use culture and gradually reduce rickety vehicles from Lagos roads, cut down on wobbly drivers and eventually reduce road accidents.

However, in its bid to address the anomaly, the government is focusing its attention on improving drivers’ knowledge across the state through the establishment of a drivers’ institute.
