Photoseries of rugby action in Zimbabwe
- Posted on Monday 20 July 2009 - 12:20Text and photo's: Shepherd Tozvireva, Africanews reporter in HarareDespite the crisis, Zimbabwe's inter-city rugby action continues at the Old Georgians Sports Club in the capital city. The inter-city, which comprises four clubs from Harare and two from Bulawayo, was formed last year to fill the void left by the defunct national league, which went into mothballs due to Zimbabwe's economic collapse.
The demise of the Zimbabwe economy meant rugby, and generally sports, was not a top priority for funding.
Old Hararians Sports Club, seen here in green, are one of the leading rugby clubs in Zimbabwe. OH, which is an ex-boys society for the famous Prince Edward School of Harare, has produced some of Zimbabwe’s finest players.
The matches at the weekend were also used to selected a Zimbabwe national side to play in the inaugural Confederation of African (CAR) Trophy tournament in Gaborone, Botswana this July.
