Visiting US President Barrack Obama is scheduled to have a breakfast meeting with Ghana's two former heads of state - John Agyekum Kufuor and Jerry John Rawlings - at the seat of government - the Castle on Saturday.
“I can confirm that these two eminent persons are part of a process for the welcome of President Barack Obama,” Foreign Affairs Minister Alhaji Mohammed Mumuni told Parliament on Wednesday.
He noted: “You cannot conceivably receive an eminent visitor like President Obama of the USA and totally exclude President Kufuor or President Rawlings.”
The two former leaders are perceived as not the best of friends and are on record to have lashed out at each other on political platforms, according to a report on myjoyonline.
However, the two former political opponents were present at a dinner with Obama’s predecessor, George W. Bush when the former US President visited Ghana in 2008.
Alhaji Mumuni said Obama will be in the country in the company of his wife and his two daughters. President Obama is expected to visit the La General Hospital in the capital and later the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) to address Parliament.
Obama will also take a tour of the Cape Coast Castle to observe some historical relics, while a public durbar of chiefs and people of the area will also honour Michelle, his wife, with the title of 'Queen".
