Wireless G has launched a new all-in-one prepaid broadband service that enables users to connect ADSL, 3G and Wi-Fi whenever through a single provider. Wireless G CEO, Carel van der Merwe, said this would enable customers to purchase capacity that is within their reach at any particular time.

He said customers could use a prepaid shared data wallet as well to hook up to the net. “We believe the service will attract great attention because of the ease of use with which customers can buy and use data capacity as and when they require,” he said.

Van der Merwe said customers would no longer have the burden of fulfilling a contract like it pertained in past. Data access can be bought in increments of R25, R50, R100, R250 or R500.

ADSL usage will cost 6.5c per megabyte (MB), while 3G will cost 62c per MB. Wi-Fi access will cost 45c per minute or 49c per MB, depending on the user's preference.

The South Africa government has pledged to ensure that the cost of telecommunications is reduced through the projects under way to expand broadband capacity, President Jacob Zuma recently said.

He said government would ensure that rural areas are not left behind in these exciting developments.
