Zim: Tsvangirai returns home Tuesday

    Prime Minister, Morgan Tsvangirai, is in stable condition and expected back home from Botswana after sustaining head injury in a motor crash. He is to attend his wife's burial rite in Buhera on Wednesday. The body of Mrs Tsvangirai will be laid in State at the family's Strathaven home in Harare today.

    Spokesman Nelson Chamisa said a service would be held at the Glamis Arena, Showgrounds, where friends, relatives, MDC-T leaders, supporters and Government officials were expected to pay their last respects.

    Chamisa said mourners would then travel to Humanikwa Village in Buhera at 2pm on Tuesday.

    Meanwhile, South African President and Sadc chairman Kgalema Motlanthe on Sunday sent a condolence message to Tsvangirai on behalf of his country and the regional bloc. In a statement, the President said: “The thoughts and prayers of the people of South Africa and Sadc region are with you while wishing you a speedy recovery to enable you to resume your national responsibilities as Prime Minister.”

    African National Congress president Jacob Zuma said: "On behalf of the African National Congress, we wish to extend to Prime Minister Tsvangirai and his family our heartfelt sympathies.

    "The tragic passing away of Susan Tsvangirai has been felt by the people of this country and the region.”

    President of the Congress of the People, Mosiuoa Lekota said: "We send our condolences and put our trust and hope in the leadership and the people of Zimbabwe that this tragedy will not detract them in their mission to rebuild their country."

    Tsvangirai sustained head and neck injuries and is currently in Botswana for further medical examinations.
