The British Department For International Development an NGO has been honoured with an All Works Of Life (AWOL) award as a true "Friend Of Sierra Leone." This is in recognition for their remarkable contribution in reforming Governance, the Sierra Leone Police force and the Justice sector among other things.
The AWOL annual Award is Sierra Leone’s most prestigious award ceremony which is celebrated each year to honour those that have contributed to national development.
Each year the ceremony brings together high profile personalities including Parliamentarians, foreign diplomats, business moguls, CEO’s senior citizens including the country’s president and Vice President in honoring those Sierra Leoneans and Non Sierra Leoneans whom have made tremendous contribution in transforming the country’s history.
DFID was nominated among two others: the German Technical Committee (GTZ) and the USAID but DFID got the highest nominations and votes and eventually became the winner for the ‘Friend of Sierra Leone’ categories.
Other winners includes Sierra Leone’s first female Brigadier Kestoria Kabia who was honored with the military officer of the year award, UN Radio Media (electronics) Institution of the year
Hon. Ibrahim Ben. Kargbo as Minister of the Year and the Republic Of Nigeria was also honored for its campaign for the restoration of integrity, dedication, dignity, and Trust to Sierra Leone.
