JELIMO RETURNS TO RURAL HOME TO GRAND RECEPTION

  1. Fourteen Bulls, top most political leaders, the finest local bands, hundreds of locals and a convoy of over two hundred vehicles escorted Kenya's latest teenage track sensation Pamela Jelimo back to her Rift Valley Kapsabet home - where she left a poor girl and returns a millionaire.

Jelimo was escorted home by three cabinet ministers and several legislators where villagers split the throats of the 14 healthiest cows in Kapsabet town, 65 chicken and several goats and obviously she sipped the prepared traditional Mursik milk served to heroes and even got the road leading to her parents home renamed - the Pamela Jelimo street.

The 19 year old police constable, is expected to transform the livelihood of her siblings and parents who have had to grow in a homestead graced by the humility of a grass thatched house and two other mud houses that serve as separate bedrooms.

Jelimo returns back home after winning the grand prix prize money of $ 1m following her 14 successive win on the track in different European countries.

The newly crowned Olympic Champion was also rewarded with Shs.2m by Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki and his boss in the police force where she works as a lowly paid constable Major Genberal Mohammed Ali has also pledged to add to the kitty by the end of the week.

Jelimo's story is quite literally a rise from grass to grace.
