The Secretary General of the Liberian Football Association (LFA) has admitted that his association was responsible after the tragic death of eight Liberians soccer fans during a world cup qualification March between Liberia's Lone Star and the Gambian National team at the Samuel K. Mr. George William said in an interview that the situation could have worsen ‘’generally, we know we had a situation were there are more people at the game than the stadium could cater for,’’ "The repercussions were that there was overcrowding at a particular gate and that then led to suffocation, which is unfortunate."

"We had fire trucks that were there to spill water over the crowd and that really helped the overall situation.

"Them spraying water over the people reduced the level of suffocation and also helped the crowd calm down.

"Yes, we (the LFA) are responsible, but things could have been worse.

Meanwhile, world football Governing body Fifa has described the incident as ‘very saddened’ and promised to investigate the incident that led to the death of the eight Liberians soccer fans.
