Nigerian bakers plan hike in bread price

  1. The Association of Master Bakers and Caterers of Nigeria (AMCN) began a one-week nationwide strike on Monday after which it would effects the increase in bread price.

AMCN had two weeks ago hinted that it would increase bread price by 25 percent due to an increase in the price of flour and sugar.

The Manager of Lawanson Bakery, Ketu told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the Baker’s strike was to create awareness of the scarcity of flour and sugar.

He said, “If we do not go on this strike, the government and the people will not appreciate our problem adding that before now we were buying a big bag of flour for N4, 000 but now we buy it for N7, 000.The price of sugar and other baking ingredients have also gone up.”
