Kufuor said that the move was to immortalise Mr Bush for his contribution towards the development and warefare of the people of Ghana and Africa at large.

The George Bush Motorway is a multifunctional and strategic 6-lane motorway to be constructed with 100million dollar from Ghana's MCA funds. When completed, it would serve as an important link in transporting goods to and from the Tema Ports and Harbour.

Bush was excited about the gesture and expressed his respect for the Ghanaian president. In his acceptance toast, Mr Bush made a humorous remark that when he next visits Ghana, he would make sure to ride on the George Bush Motorway, but promised that this time, he would not close the road to traffic.
