Kenya-Rwanda: Kagame calls for coup

    Rwandan President Paul Kagame has called for military solution within Kenya to end the current violence. Quoted by Thursday's Daily Metro, Kagame suggests that a military coup would be the only way to save Kenya from a genocide like what was experienced in Rwanda in 1994.

    So far, neither government officials nor opposition leaders have reacted. This development occurs as the African Union summit is due to start today in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

    In the meantime, the United States has announced that it was considering to freeze more than US$540 million in assistance to Kenya further to the ongoing turmoil in the country. Most of the US assistance aid goes directly to helping improve livelihoods through health care.

    Speaking in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia The US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Jendayi Frazer warned that the US was considering alternative measures to deal with the problem in Kenya even if it mean intervention from outside.

    Frazer also said that she was consulting with African leaders for the way forward before taking the next steps in bringing to a stop the problems in Kenya. She expressed disappointment over the slow pace of the talks and the lack of clear commitment by both President Mwai Kibaki and his close opponent opposition leader Raila Odinga.

    The EU and other international observers to the Dec. 27 presidential elections maintain that the process was irregular and call for a re-run as the only way out.

    President Paul Kagame, suggesting that a military coup would be the only way to save Kenya from genocide is not a good ideal. Military coups in the past have created more problems for a country and has been the worst and the hardest to disband once in power.

    The Dec. 27 presidential elections which appear to be irregular and possibly rigged, then there should be a new election and Mwai Kibaki and Raila Odinga should not run for president. Both have cause death and mayhem already. Too elected either one would only cause more mayhem, deaths and destruction.

    The decision by President Kagame to suggest that only military intervention could save Kenya from sliding the Rwanda way should be considered but with caution.

    In Kenya, the police are now overwhelmed and its a known fact that the police are often used as a tool to suppress the populars .

    The ban on public rallies and the brutal behavior by law enforcement agencies noticeably the police has contributed in making things worse.

    The quicker you withdraw the police from roaming the streets and unleashing brutality the sooner you save Kenya.

    Another thing is that the politicians have failed and its time the test the bitter truth of a military power.

    Can the army do what the politicians and the police have failed, Kenyans are waiting.

    President Kagame was also a military man BUT he now has support and Rwanda is a civilian regime. So why the worry politicians?

    This is absurd.remember the attempted coup in 1982.many souls were lost and we cant imagine the same happening to our beloved Kenya.
