Annan meets poll commission about results
- Posted on Friday 25 January 2008 - 09:41Dennis Itumbi, AfricaNews reporter in Nairobi, KenyaFormer United Nations boss Kofi Annan who is making crucial strides in the mediation process here has a full day Friday, according to a schedule of appointments released to the media a few minutes ago.
He is currently in a meeting with the Electoral Commission of Kenya (ECK) boss Samuel Kivuitu in attempts to unlock the source of the problem.
He will then meet with inter-religious groups that have been separately involved in the mediation process, expected in the meeting is Catholic Cardinal John Njue, Anglican Archbishop Benjamin Nzimbi, Muslim leaders and Episcopal church leaders.
Annan is then scheduled to embark on a possible field visit toa yet to be disclosed venue, before returning to Serena hotel where he going to hold talks with retired President Daniel Moi at 1630hrs GMT and he will be winding up his busy Friday after meeting Nobel Lauraute Wangari Maathai at the same venue thirty minutes later.
Annan Thursday succeeded in bringing the two chief protagonists in the Kenyan political face off together for face to face talks after which they shook hands, smiled and spoke peace to the bleeding heart of the nation as hundreds of onlookers cheered them on.
