The Zimbabweans are also said to be buying all the maize, flour, or cooking oil and other food stuffs from all the shops in towns or villages bordering Zimbabwe. The Botswana citizens say they are not able to buy any food in the shop in any towns or villages near the border because the foodstuffs are no longer available for the locals to buy.

“I feel for them but I encourage you to treat another person the way you would want him or her to treat you. The Zimbabweans were not like that during Ian Smith’s era and they used to visit genuinely as social acquaintances. But today they are under pressure as a result of their economic situation in their country. As such they come here to Botswana in desperate need for help,” said Seretse.

In the Bobirwa district near the Zimbabwean border, the Zimbabweans are said to be terrorizing the villagers and smuggling their livestock to Zimbabwe. The tribal chief for the area, Mmirwa Malema called the minister to help curb the escalating cross border crime.
The tribal chief called for the government to round up Zimbabweans and keep them in some place other than deporting them and for them (Zimbabweans) to come back and terrorize them again.

The minister said there will be satellite police stations all over the country with the new policing system which will be introduced soon.  He said he knew that many Zimbabwean are involved in criminal activities but they are encouraged by the Botswana citizens.

Zimbabwe is presently locked in a political crisis  after the 29 March and 27 June  2008 disputed elections results which a forcing thousands of displaced Zimbabweans to flee to neighboring countries like Botswana and South Africa.
