Zimbabwe opposition on state violence

Zimbabwean opposition parties have complained over continued intimidation by the Zimbabwe Republic Police and state violence as we are only 21 days away from the elections.

The MDC Tsvangirai lead faction raised complaints with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission against intimidation and rampant arrests of its members by state agents. The Tsvangirai camp also said the Zimbabwean camp cannot afford free and fair elections in Zimbabwe given the mechanisms of rigging that Zimbabwe has been used to.

Recently MDC candidate for Saint Mary’s Marvelous Khumalo was arrested in Chitungwiza for allegedly political violence and is still behind bars after the government denied them bail pending his trial on March 18.However reports from other provinces revealed the same scenario of intimidation.

MDC spokesperson and Kuwadzana MP Nelson Chamisa said the volatile situation being effected by the ruling government is aimed at instilling fear and suppress their candidate’s political aspirations of helping the people of Zimbabwe out of their bondage.

Moreso in Gweru, the Zimbabwe Republic Police barred the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Union for their International Women’s Day celebrations. The Police argued that ZCTU has been making political statements in their endeavors to represent the working workers in Zimbabwe.

Despite the police ban, ZCTU have filed urgent reports to the courts to have their case nullified because International Women’s Day is not a political event because it is also commemorated worldwide.

I wish that we Africans should learn to live together peacefully because violence takes us to nowhere. I believe in dialogue and if we get used to it, we'll certainly handle our issues differently.

To resort to violence is a shortcut and it costs us a lot of resources. President Robert Mugabe should have the wisdom of Nelson Mandela (South Africa) & the late Mwalimu Julius Nyerere (Tanzania) and should let the new blood take over.

What will he lose if resigns? In my opinion, he loses nothing. Instead, he will only be respected as a prudent person if he does it earlier than wait until the situation in the country worsens. I do no believe that Mugabe is the only person who can lead Zimbabwe. NOT AT ALL!

I'm sure we are not created to fight against one another but live and learn from one another peacefully. So, we want peace in Zimbabwe and we want to see people flourishing again the way we used to hear in the past. Zimbabwe used to be famous and now we hear it is falling apart.
