Zimbabwe: Cholera kills 978 people

    About 978 people have so far been killed by cholera in Zimbabwe according to a UN report. Earlier report put the figure at 700 however it has now gone up to an increase of 25 percent. Several world leaders have called for President Robert Mugabe's resignation to save the lives of people in that country.

    This indicates that the situation continues to get worse contrary to Mugabe’s declaration of cholera being controlled in that country.

    According to a BBC report, the UN's office for humanitarian affairs says 18,413 suspected cases have been reported across the country since the outbreak began in August.

    Places like the capital Harare has been badly hit by the disease due to poor sanitation and bad water.

    Talks between the government and opposition are meanwhile deadlocked. The Security Council was holding its first discussions on Zimbabwe since July.
