Zambia is to intensify its corruption fight which is aimed at prosecuting all those who plundered and mismanaged public funds. Vice president George Kunda who is also justice minister said Zambia is governed by tenets of laws and that no person whether in the private or public sector is above the law.

The Justice Minister said the country will spare no efforts in cramping down on corruption. Kunda said Zambia will intensify the fight against blackmail, corruption, crime and abuse of office because it had a moral obligation to protect its people.
He was also quoted by Lusakatimes.com as saying investigations into Zambia Airways will continue in order to determine the master minders in the suspension of the operations of the Airline and the people involved in the US$29 million debt.
“The people involved in the case in question will be prosecuted accordingly,” he said.
Zambia has in the past intensified the corruption fight through former president late Levy Mwanawasa who died last year. Mwanawasa won the hearts of many donors for his corruption fight.
The country on Tuesday jailed former president’s wife Regina Chiluba three and half years for receiving $300,000 from her husband. The former president is also answering graft charges and is accused of stealing $ 488,000 public money. He however has denied the charge.
The country has also in separate cases jailed former Zambia air force commander Sande Kayumba, his business ally Amon Sibande and an ex-senior officer in charge of logistics Andrew Nyirongo and sentenced them to seven years on Tuesday for corruption.
Media reports in the country said the three were found guilty on 23 counts of corruption and abuse of office.
According to the reports, Sibande was last week jailed for three years in a separate graft case together with former army commander Geojago Musengule. Kunda said this in the capital, Lusaka when he received a petition from a Copperbelt-based civil society organization.
