The Africa Chief Executive of Bharti Airtel which now owns Zain, Manoj Kholi said his company is committed to making telecom services cheap and accessible to all.

He said the company hopes to expand its services to rural dwellers across the country.

“We have a huge amount of farmer link services and we want to do the same in Ghana.

“Why should rural citizens of Ghana who are in small towns and villages, why shouldn’t they have the same services as urban Ghana,” he quizzed.

He is hopeful expansion of the network will create thousands of jobs.

Kohli is also appealing to government to make number portability possible by March next year.

He said customers should always have a choice and applauded government for taking the initiative of implementing the number portability.

Number portability allows subscribers to move to their preferred network operator whilst maintaining their phone numbers along with the prefix.

Bharti Airtel finalized its takeover of Zain’s Africa operations a month ago. With 180 million customers, it is currently the world’s fifth largest telecoms company but hopes to be the third in two years.
