Zain-Kenya has announced a 25 percent reduction in internet access charges for its unlimited internet package. It is part of moves to grow its market share, media reports say.

Officials said the reduction would enhance such plans in what had become an increasingly competitive data business market, itnewsafrica.com reported. Zain Kenya Managing Director Rene Meza said the company was now focusing on growing the data business by ensuring widespread access to the internet.
“Reliable and affordable internet will spur growth in key sectors of the economy and also create new areas of entrepreneurship similar to those that have been created through the introduction of mobile telephony in Kenya,” Meza said.
Following the reduction, customers who sign up for the service will now enjoy unlimited internet for only Kshs 2 995 per month down from KES3 999 and will also receive a free USB modem.
Part of the Zain Group, Zain Kenya was launched in Kenya in 2004 as Celtel and rebranded to Zain in 2008. It is one of three operators in a competitive mobile network sector, the other being Orange Mobile and Safaricom.
