I am an embarrased, upset and worried South Africa. Over the last few months xenophobic attacks have been on the increase throughout South Africa, and now its became a national security threat.
Its absolutly shameful on govermnet level. Our govermnet has totally ignored illegal immigration into this country, they have failed on foreign policy, border control and home affairs. Its not a secret that Zimbwaens and Somalians are flocking into the country because of political assylum, and Nigerians, Zambians and others are floking in for a better financial life.
Why has our goverment not created refugee camps for those in trouble or some sophisticated system of keeping track and monitoring those who have come on 'holiday' and never return to their own countries. Instead what has happaned is that foriegn nationals have been left to create their own destiny once inside South Africa be it in crime, cheap labour or just pure poverty stricken. This negligence by govermet has had a negetive effect on South Africans, and now they have taken the law into thier own hands to solve the illigal immigration problem.
One must understand this very well, when people [ and no one blames them for saving their lives] jump the border they are forced to hide/settle in informal settlements/shanty towns where they are competing with other poor South Africans for space and jobs, this eventaully causes hatred and conflict. When people also settle in South Africa illigaly they cannot find proper jobs and will therefore be drawn into crime this eventually causes hatred and conflict. One must also understand that black South Africans are still recovering from an era of deprevation and oppression, so their tolarence level is very short and the only way they know how to solve problems is through violence.
What I am basically saying is that there is no excuse for violence and hatred anywhere in this world, however in this case serious socio-economic reasons are at play - what is the phrase ' survival of the fittest'- and its not a matter of i speak Zulu and you don't.
Its a disgrace that people are now forced to suffer and die, in county where democratic principles are the pride of the continent, and its even more of a disgrace that in 2 years we will expect and welcome people from all over the world to visit and enjoy the country. Unfortunetly this is reasoning you cannot give to a hungry man who is competing with onther hungry man.
increase the peace!
