Will chimpazees survive?

  1. Will Chimpanzees survive?
Few months ago, I have talked about bush meat in the remote part of Equateur within the DR Congo. Many people are killing animals anyhow and most of them killed some species as Gorillas, elephants clandestinely. And their meats can be seen in the market or people sell them everywhere in the city.
One day, I have been reading some reports listing species under threat of extinction but I could not find any Chimpanzee on any list. It’s unfortunate since there is the most endangered animal in this part of Africa – equatorial Africa. These animals are parts of Africa wealth but exterminating them is a horrible thing.
In the village or local markets, chimpanzee meat can be seen everywhere and it’s more popular than beef, pig or goat meat. Nothing as measure is taken to protect those animals. And the ambiguous thing is that, those supposed to take measure are also the first lovers of that meat and it makes the situation more complicated.

So what do you think must be done Mandaba? People need to change their behaviour towards eating the meat they love. How to do it?

The better thing is to make a campaign against eating the meat.

    Mandaba,
Thanks for your informative post. Are you working in Equateur? I work for an organisation called WildlifeDirect and we have a lot of work focused on the Virunga and mostly with gorilla protection. We have quite a few bloggers who run conservation projects such as Lomami that deal with these issues. Perhaps you can visit our site and see if there is anyone you can connect with.
The bushmeat trade is one of the most complex problems all over sub-Saharan Africa and I know it is a huge problem in your area. People have been trying to find solutions for so many years
